An invoice is a legal demand for payment. To stand up in court (and typically to get paid by a corporate AP department), it must contain:

  • The word "Invoice" clearly displayed.
  • Your unique Invoice Number (sequential).
  • Your Tax ID / VAT Number.
  • The Customer's Name and Address.
  • A clear description of goods/services.
  • The Payment Due Date.

Missing any of these is an excuse for the client to delay payment.
